Emergency Food and Financial Assistance
The HELP program

HELP (Help in Emergencies and Long-term Planning) is a partnership with local churches, providing food, financial assistance, and long-term planning to persons in need. The program is designed to give emergency assistance and to follow up that assistance with help in securing resources to reach stability.

Getting Assistance
The Food Pantry is open from 9:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M., Tuesday through Thursday. No appointment is necessary, but it is recommended that you call prior to coming.

Financial Assistance is provided after a client meets with a volunteer. Appointments are required and can be scheduled by calling 804-285-5986 at the following times:

  • Monday and Thursday: 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
  • Tuesday: 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Volunteers Needed
Commonwealth Catholic Charities needs volunteers immediately to help with the following activities:

  • Emergency food pantry – stocking food and preparing groceries for clients in need.
  • Assisting clients in need of financial assistance.
  • Assisting clients in need of housing assistance.
  • Administrative assistance – answering calls for our HELP program and helping out with data entry (very simple!).
