In 2024, Eurydice escaped her home in the Democratic Republic of the Congo to legally come to the United States as a refugee with her parents and siblings.
At 20 years old, Eurydice was ready to embrace new opportunities. Through CCC, she enrolled in a youth mentorship program, got her driver’s license, her first job at Carillion Clinic, and bought a car.
“I am able to adapt anywhere you put me,” Eurydice said, reflecting on the past two years. “I’m a fast learner and have good communication skills.”
Eurydice enrolled in a GED program, fearing that her Congolese high school diploma wouldn’t be accepted in the United States. But Eurydice’s mentor, Beth, saw another path.

Beth encouraged Eurydice to go for it and apply for an associate degree program. Eurydice took Beth’s advice and was accepted into a business administration program at Virginia Western Community College
“Without Beth coming into the picture and showing me that it was an option, I never would have applied,” said Eurydice.
Now, Eurydice is ready for more. As she finishes up her associate degree she is researching four-year universities, boosting her leadership skills, and finding a job in her field of study. She has also set her sights on buying a home with her mom.
As Eurydice continues to find her place, she is helping her siblings do the same. She inspired her younger sister to get involved in CCC’s youth mentorship program as a mentee and helped her brother go to the DMV for the first time.
“We are so proud of all Eurydice has accomplished,” said Bonnie Meyer CCC refugee services specialist, “We are looking forward to supporting her as she continues to pursue her dreams.”
