FAQs
Does CCC provide foster care for newborns?
Yes, CCC is licensed to provide foster care from birth to age 21.
Can I adopt a child from foster care?
In some cases, yes. The goal for children in TFC care is safe reunification with their families. If reunification is impossible, then finding a safe, loving adoptive family is the next goal. Children and youth in the URM program are not eligible for adoption because their parents have not severed their legal parental rights.
If I become a foster parent, am I responsible for my foster child’s health insurance?
No. You are not responsible for the child’s health insurance. Every child in foster care has Medicaid.
Am I responsible for the transportation of children in my care?
Yes, you are responsible for transportation to all court appointments, birth family visits, mental health appointments, regular medical appointments, etc. However, in situations where there are conflicts, CCC will work with you to make accommodation.
Will I be compensated for being a foster parent?
Foster parents in Virginia receive a monthly reimbursement that covers everyday expenses. Medical expenses are covered by Medicaid.
Will I need to interact with the child’s birth family?
We recognize the importance of connecting birth and foster families when it is appropriate and in the best interest of the child. CCC staff will provide support and training to facilitate productive interactions.
How long does it take to become a foster parent?
It can take as little as 12 weeks to become a foster parent.
