A letter to the birth parents

Dear birth parents,

We admire your strength and resilience. We know the road ahead may be difficult, but we hope together we can face this journey with full hearts and loving support.

We have been happily married for over twenty years. We have always wanted to be parents. After years of failed fertility treatments, we decided to pursue adoption. Over four years ago, we started our first adoption journey. We welcomed Grayson into our lives in November of 2021. He has brought us so much joy and love. Grayson’s birth parents are amazing people, and we have maintained a loving, open adoption. We are incredibly thankful for that opportunity, and we wish to now expand our family once again.

We hope this profile will provide you a glimpse of the life we live and the love we have to offer. We hope you find the most amazing home for your child.

Jeff

Jeff graduated from the University of Delaware with a degree in History and a concentration in Spanish. Go Blue Hens! His favorite college memories involve his time on the UD Men's Soccer Team and studying abroad in Costa Rica. After graduating from college, Jeff found his passion for home building and construction. Today, Jeff owns and operates a local roofing company. Jeffrey enjoys boating on the James River, taking walks with our dogs, hanging out with friends and, most of all, being a dad to Grayson.

“My brother has a heart of gold—truly. Everyone who meets him feels it immediately. He’s the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back without a second thought, and he somehow balances being a hardworking, successful business owner with always putting his family first. He plays like a kid, loves with his whole heart, and inspires me every single day. As a brother, he is generous with his love and support; as a dad and uncle, he is unmatched. He’s the real-life version of the dad from Bluey—present, joyful, patient, and full of imagination. He brings meaning, laughter, and so much goodness into all of our lives, and any child would be incredibly lucky to be loved by him.” - Auntie Liz

Kelly

Kelly also attended the University of Delaware, where she studied Elementary and Special education while competing on UD field hockey team. She also attended graduate school at William and Mary. She enjoys supporting The Tribe at local sporting games and events. The only problem is when Delaware plays William and Mary. It is hard to pick a team!

For many years, Kelly worked as an elementary school teacher. Today, she works for the family business as a bookkeeper and office manager. Teaching was her passion, but working for the family business provides great flexibility to work from home or the office. Kelly loves cooking, gardening, snuggling with the dogs and being Grayson’s mommy.

"As Kelly’s older sister, I have had the absolute joy of watching her grow into the most selfless, loving, nurturing, and supportive person I know. Kelly has always put the needs of others first—whether as a sister, teacher, wife, or mother. For 15 years, I witnessed her pour her heart and soul into teaching young children. She created a structured, challenging, and engaging environment where her students thrived and developed a love of learning, all while feeling supported, valued, and safe.

As a wife and mother, she has built a home filled with unconditional love, patience, laughter, and security. It is a place where Grayson is deeply loved, nurtured, and valued every single day. Whether she is comforting him through difficult moments, celebrating his accomplishments, or patiently guiding him with kindness and encouragement, Kelly leads with steady compassion and grace. Her nurturing spirit is not just something she does—it is who she is.

I am incredibly proud of the mother she has become, and I feel truly blessed to have her as my little sister." -Aunt VV

Our Community

Some people are worth melting for.” Frozen

Our family of three loves to be outside. We enjoy boating, exploring local adventure parks, and visiting area museums. Grayson especially loves being around other children; younger and older. We have frequent play dates with friends and neighbors.

We have two loving puppies. Our first dog, Sammy, or better known as May-May, is about 14 years old. She is a mix breed, rescue who loves treats. (Maybe too much!) Our second, dog, Hudson, is a 2-year-old yellow lab. He loves to play outfield during family baseball games and snore loudly during naps.

Family is very important to us. Kelly's family is more spread out, living in New Jersey and Texas. We enjoy trips to see Aunt VV and Auntie Meg in Texas, while also hosting them here in Virginia. We all love to frequent museums and playgrounds together. Kelly’s parents, who live in New Jersey, also love to spend time with us, even if it is a simple FaceTime call.

We are very close with Jeff's family. Not only do many of us work together, but we also share a backyard with Jeff’s parents. We have an acreage of yard filled with a fire pit, sand area, trampoline, swing set and garden. Grayson walks across the yard every night to visit his Gigi and Papa. He loves his daily visits. Jeff’s sister and her family are also local. We all enjoy gathering for holidays, birthdays, and family dinners. The cousins love to play together.

We live in small, wooded community with a private drive that adjoins to the pool parking lot and the two neighborhood playgrounds. There are many families with young children in the neighborhood. Our neighborhood is a wonderful place to raise a child.

"To know the Skinner family is to love them❤!

Jeff & Kelly are amazing & Grayson is captivating, pure joy! Together they are fun, genuine, and kind to everyone.

Love this family, inspired by them!"

- Kerry (friend and co-worker)

"Our children, who are now teenagers, think of Jeff and Kelly as bonus parents and Grayson as something much more than a bonus brother. Their love for our children knows no limits. "

-Gina (friend and neighbor)

"We’ve known Kelly and Jeff for a long time. The are amazing parents, great friends, and some of the kindest people we know. We recently bought a home on the next street over, and we’re so happy our son will grow up with Grayson. William (3yo) loves playdates and spending time at their house. He even walks up to their door when we go for a walk."

Quick Facts

If you can’t tell by now, we love animated movies!

We met in the athletic training room. Ironically, Kelly was the one injured, but Jeff is the accident prone one.

We adore dogs! We love the chance to babysit our friends’ and family members’ dogs. We even have a dog friendly office.

The beach is our happy place! Feet in the sand and eyes on the surf is a perfect day.

Our favorite family movie is The Grinch, and we watch it anytime of year. “To kindness and love, the things we need most!” – The Grinch
