Homeless Point of Entry

For Richmond individuals and families caught in the grip of a housing crisis, the task of finding shelter is daunting. Until recently, those in search of a place to stay would walk from shelter to shelter, often turned away for lack of space or deemed ineligible for service.

In April 2004, CCC established a program designed to help homeless individuals and families obtain immediate shelter and related services. By operating Homeless Point of Entry as Richmond’s point of entry for those in crisis, staff is equipped to provide a more efficient rapid response to those seeking help. The staff and volunteers at Homeless Point of Entry work together with other human service providers including Caritas, HomeAgain, Salvation Army and the Daily Planet toward a solution to end Richmond’s homeless problem.

"HUD recognizes the benefit of having central intake systems in communities. Homeless Point of Entry has all the best practice components for central intake systems around the country, i.e. comprehensive intake and client screening, service matching and collaborative partnerships including onsite access to mainstream benefits, healthcare and specialized case management."
