Adoption
At this point, the U.S. State Department tells us that Haitian adoptions are on hold due to the current crisis. For now, the focus in Haiti will be managing the current crisis and attempting to find kids’ family members. Before a child can be released into the adoption process, it must be found that his or her parents are deceased and that there are no other living relatives. After this has been determined—a time period of several months, at least--children remaining without family will be placed for adoption.
The good news is that the children who are were matched with adoptive families before the earthquake will have their adoptions expedited. CCC’s adoption staff is keeping a list of contact information so we can let families know when adoptions open up.

Foster Care
CCC has no information from the U.S government on how many, if any, children will be referred to foster care from Haiti. The focus now (as stated above) is to guarantee children in the process of adoption with U.S. families get here first. As with adoption, before children can enter foster care as refugees in the U.S., the Haitian government must establish that parents are deceased and that there are no living relatives to provide care in the US or in Haiti.
We are preparing in case some children are referred to CCC for foster care—it’s too difficult to predict the number, but it would likely be few.
If you are interested in fostering any refugee children, we will gladly put you on a list and invite you to a scheduled orientation. Becoming a foster parent entails completing11 sessions of training and undergoing a home study process—all of which can take from 3-6 months.
Counseling
CCC retains professional, licensed counselors for group and individual counseling on a variety of issues. If you or someone you know has been particularly affected by the crisis in Haiti and would like to seek counseling, please call us or email us for an appointment today.
