In 2010, CCC hosted the region’s first candlelight vigil in honor of
children who were victims of abuse and neglect in Virginia.
Jay,* a teenage young man who had long ago learned to be left behind by
the adults in his life, was not too interested in opening up to his CASA
worker. “I would be there for school and home visits but he would not talk
to me about anything,” his CASA worker explains. Jay needed the constant,
long-term relationship his CASA worker brought to his life. It took over
a year, but her regular presence and care helped Jay turn a corner. He is
now in a foster home and has a positive relationship with his foster parents.
